Update 10/10/2003: After visiting with Dr. James Andrews, it has been decided that Dajuan Wagner will have to have surgery on his right knee. According to the team the knee was re-injured in the same place as last year when he had to miss the final 20 games of the season.

Surgery could be performed anytime as soon as the swelling subsides. Although it is not being released by the team this could me Wagner missing the first 6 weeks of the season, but, he could possibly be back in as soon as 2-4 after the surgery takes place. More will be known after the actual surgery takes place.

Last years 1st round draft pick is missing more practice and more time on the court. Last season started w/ a severe bladder infection that affected his play and sidelined him for 14 games. Then he proceeded to miss the final 20 games of the '02-'03 campaign w/ knee injury. From all reports his rehab hasn't exactly gone as planned or as hoped since his surgery back in March. Numerous times this summer he had to be held out of workouts or summer league  games due to pain and /or swelling in his knee.

Wagner drafted for his explosiveness to the basket is now getting himself further behind in a battle for playing time between himself, Ricky Davis, Jason Kapono, Darius Miles  J.R. Bremer, and  LeBron James all of who are capable playing at the shooting guard position. According to Coach Silas, there is an upside in that other guys on the team will get a better look than if Wagner were in there.

In one person's opinion about this, it is very disconcerting that Wagner could end up going under the knife for a second time in  a year. Even more so some of the comments made about the lack of hard work in his rehab.
