The Cleveland Cavaliers went through some mixed
emotions during their evening with the Utah Jazz. The high, was Cleveland's
first win in the new Delta Center. Their low, LeBron James left the fourth
quarter with an ankle injury. The Cavs rode Carlos Boozer's career high 32
points to an overtime win, who were also without Zydrunas Ilgauskas after being
ejected for fighting in the third quarter.
The Cavs rallied from an 18 point first half
deficit to force overtime and the win. Ironically, the Cavs forced overtime on
the same play as LeBron (29 pts., 7 rebounds) went down with his ankle injury.
Ira Newble rebounded LeBron's miss (going down with an ankle sprain) and was
fouled. He then made one of two free-throws to tie the game 85-85 with about 12
seconds left. Boozer scored 10 of the Cavs 17 pts. in the overtime period, as
Andrei Kirilenko scored seven overtime points and 27 total. James' ankle injury
was revealed as a sprain and may be out a game or two.
The Cavs got off to a to nice start and taking a
19-17 lead after the first quarter. They squandered their lead (sound familiar)
in the second quarter and trailed at halftime by 18 points. The Jazz still held
a 16 point lead about midway through the third period, when Ilgauskas and Greg
Ostertag got into the fighting altercation. Both guys were ejected. That may
have sparked the Cavs, who went on a 19-5 run to end the third quarter.
It was the James and Boozer show from then on
out. James helped the Cavs to outscore the Jazz 28-14 in the fourth quarter.
After James' injury that's when Boozer took command. It was only the Jazz's
fourth home loss this season and their first home loss to the Cavs since 1989.
Boozer had 18 rebounds to help the Cavs have a dominating 52-33 rebounding
effort over the Jazz. Raja Bell and DeShawn Stevenson played well in the Jazz's
defeat with 20 and 18 points respectively.
