LeBron's Impact (Part III)

These past two months have been trying to say the least. But here we are thriving and I want to give a huge thank you. I know that I promised those pesky ads would leave, but when you have a sweet deal it makes it hard to leave. Ask Paul Silas about LeBron James, he sticks to LBJ like I stick to unlimited free bandwidth and toys. This site and the Cavs are a lot alike. We want to be the best, we fight for everything we’ve got…but right now we don’t have the resources. That is what is great about this Cavalier team. I have hit a point where I truly believe that they can beat anyone at anytime…anywhere.

Let’s look around at what is going on and what we really have. We have the big guy from Lithuania, Zydrunas Ilgauskas, no not many believe he is anything more than a Euro Rick Smits. But I for one believe that he could be one of the top 3 to 5 offensive centers in the league for a long time, while playing decent defense. The defense is now showing up, problem, the coaches killed his offensive game while improving his D. Don’t worry that won’t last long, Z is too good in the middle to not score and get his. The only question is are there enough balls to get him his? Also, can we improve the perimeter defense so he isn’t trying to split himself in two on the defensive end?

Then there is Eric Williams, this guy is the man. I truly believe that he is the reason that the team turned things around. He plays like Paul Silas coaches and is successful which gives Silas more credibility in the locker room than he already has. Williams isn’t a big scorer…heck he’s not a big anything. But he is the exact type of guy that should be playing, teaching and supporting LeBron in his rookie season. To me Williams is a must sign, but from what I’m hearing he’s asking too much for what he brings, which could send him on his way. It is at least for the young guys, good to see a guy like that for half a year, even if that’s all they get.

DaJuan Wagner, ok so he got sat the other day. Well with him getting sat it’s the first time I’ve heard Silas say oops. Wags is a force off the bench. With the Cavaliers have LBJ at shooting guard, Wagner could become a 20 point scorer off the bench. Yes he’s that good. He took Miles job as the 6th man and has shown that this is what a good 6th man looks like. I just hope that Silas doesn’t get match up happy again and forget that teams score points against anyone and if you can’t score you won’t win.

Jeff McInnis may be the second most important pick up of the year. Not only does it give the Cavaliers a legit threat at PG it has bumped the play of Kevin Ollie. Now whether it is just Kevin remembering what he was supposed to look like or the competition for playing time it doesn’t matter. Ollie has been better. McInnis brings a lot to this team and by the end of the month, I foresee him helping them do some amazing things.

Now to the Big Two, the deuce on the loose. Carlos Boozer and LeBron James. Hands down in my opinion these two are both all stars. Boozer is the man of double doubles. The construction worker, the man with the hard hat. He battles every game, fights for every point and rebound he gets. There is a very good case for Carlos being the hardest nosed player in the game right now. Then what does he do when everyone knows he’ll have the ugly nights? He lights it up when James goes down with injury and didn’t look like he had a problem doing so. This guy is more talented than any fan of the Cavaliers or the NBA gives him. Basically it’s just height discrimination.

Now onto the man of the title…Mr. LeBron James. This has been a season of progression for LBJ. No not really by him so much, other than adjusting his game to his teammates. But by the fans, the media, the NBA. First it was, they are putting too much on him by putting him at the point guard position at the age of 18. All he did then was average 7 assists a game and 18 points. But he wasn’t getting enough shots and Ricky Davis was an issue. OK, so now Ricky is gone, everyone now says, “it’s too much pressure, you can’t expect him to throw down 30+ points a night.” Well all LeBron did was raise his points per game to over 25 during that time. But wait, James is turning the ball over too much we need a point guard. We go and get Jeff McInnis. So now it’s LeBron should move to the three and get Wagner starting with James. Nice thought but when I guy can put up 30 almost every night, I don’t think that was ever really an argument. So you ask, what does this mean? Well it means that LeBron is everything and more than any of us could’ve imagined. He’s faster, stronger and more determined than anyone anywhere really believed. That includes the fanatics, well except those that predicted Michael Jordan scoring with John Stockton’s assists.

Basically, I must say that I am just blow away. Never in my wildest dreams did I expect James to be this good this fast. Did I expect him to be special? Yes, actually I expected him to be an all star and rookie of the year. But I never expected this team to be this good this fast, despite their losing streaks and shortcomings. What LeBron is to this team, and what his presence means to this team is just amazing and can’t be measured by stats, no matter how fast or accurate you computer is.
