So much for all the hype surrounding King James; the microscope, the press, the doubts…one game does not make a career, but, to sit and watch an 18 year old man, playing against one of the best teams in the NBA and almost single handedly will his team to a victory. That is something special and that is what was envisioned when James was selected w/ the first pick of the draft.

This is no longer about the aura of the team and the city that James brings. This is now about basketball and although he has just one game under his belt he showed he is who he said he is. Let’s not get carried away w/ Magic or Jordan comparisons. They aren't fair to any of the three or basketball fans in general.

What I did see Wednesday night is something I didn’t expect, a Cavalier team that struggled without him in the game. The Cavaliers look more in sync when he was on the court, when he sat down to catch his breathe the team faltered. This was one development that I for one wasn’t expecting to see from this team. I don’t expect this kind of performance all season. Just as I don’t expect this kind of performance from Z or Ricky Davis all season. LeBron will command attention all season whenever he steps onto the court. Teams will look to go after him first. It’s now up to the rest of the team to step up and match the intensity and control that James brings to the court.

This started as his night and finished as his night. 25 points, 9assists and 6 boards in a rookie debut is amazing, but to do it as an 18 year old rookie, beyond comprehension. Let's forget about the stats for a minute, this game and probably his career will be more than that. Tonight included a beautiful alley-oop to Ricky Davis for his first assist, a wonderful no look pass later in the game, his jump shot was working and at no point did he look in the least a bit intimidated. He made a few mistakes and took a couple bad shots, but even with the loss the Cavaliers showed they have something to build on. Tonight will bring us game 2 of the King James era, even if he doesn’t come close to repeating his performance against the Kings, I can say with certainty that he belongs in this league.
