If you live in the Cleveland area, or are a fan of Cleveland sports, you know the stories. They are imprinted in your mind as much as anything else in your life. The Drive, RedRight88, The Fumble, Mesa in '97, the Juggernaut of '95 that got out classed in the World Series...and have I even mentioned Michael Jordan? Cleveland sports let downs have been as consistent as the 2 feet of snow that hit w/ every lake effect snow system in January; massive, torturous and unrelenting. So how is it that for one shining moment, the baby of C-Town professional sports gets the shining example of luck and love upon it?

The selection of Lebron James by the Cavaliers brought us maybe the most famous high school athlete ever. But how many really thought it would happen? Weren't you just positive that Denver, NY or even Chicago would get that pick? We all heard the stories about the lottery being rigged and that the NBA would never send a LeBron James type of commodity to Cleveland. You remember those stories. They seem pretty silly now, but maybe, just maybe someone saw in Cleveland what so many see in the Cubs when they root for the underDawg; The little guy that has suffered so long, endured so much and deserves a break.

I'm not one of those anointing LeBron “The god of the NBA” just yet. No eighteen-year-old kid deserves such pressure. Although I am almost positive that if there is one who wants it and could handle it, it's him. It seems as though he's been prepared for this moment for years. But, as “The savior of a disenfranchised franchise”, I will give him that title any day. The life and buzz surrounding the Cavaliers is unlike any in a very long time. Probably at least since before the Coliseum days and he hasn't even touched the court for real yet!

I do expect some pitfalls. You have to expect some struggles and who-knows-what when talking about someone w/ that much hype. We may suffer even more gut wrenching defeats in the future because of our love of the Cavaliers. At least we can say that basketball is again being watched, talked about and loved in Cleveland again. Cleveland fans know that the bad always comes w/ the good. But, the good is just too much fun to not enjoy when it's here…….
